4th of July Weekend Tips

Weekends and holidays are tough and put them together, well makes for long days of picnics, BBQ's, and parties.  Last year at this time I was beginning my journey and these get togethers were always difficult.  Here is what worked for me.
  1. Schedule your Workout Time and make it non-negotiable!
  2. Drink your Shakeology during your travels to your destination each day. 
  3. Pack healthy snacks.
  4. Drink lots of water!
  5. Make good food choices from what is provided.
  6. Offer to bring a dish.
Schedule your workout before you leave, so you do not have to worry about getting it in when you return.  If you drink your shake on the way to your event you will feel full when you arrive and will not want to pick at the appetizers as much.  The healthy snacks come in handy, especially if you visiting multiple people that day.  Water is essential as always, but remember when you are thirsty, sometimes we eat instead of drink, so stay well hydrated.  The tricky part food choices at the event.  Remember do not beat yourself up and not eat because it is not clean.  Why?  Because if you refuse to eat, most likely you will binge later on something just as bad or even worse.  Appetizers, try to stick with fruits and vegetables, but it is ok to taste others that might not be clean (just don't eat a whole plate of it).  If the main course is hotdogs and hamburgers, do without the bun.  Fried chicken?  Peel off the breading and skin.  Salads, stay away from creamy, and gravitate towards ones with more fruits and vegetables.  Deserts do the push away if you can.  If not limit yourself.

Overall, I feel that how you handle the situation will depend on where you are in your journey.  Since I am at a completely healthy weight at about 120, I am not going to beat myself up if I have a few items that are not clean.  But when I began, I wanted to lose weight so bad, that rarely did I indulge in something unneccessary.  So, enjoy the weekend, plan ahead, drink plenty of water, have your shake daily, and stay safe.  Remember, a Holiday is not going undo what you have worked for, as long as that one day is not a return to old, unhealthy habits.
